This is in fact a semi annual report since the last report in December 2010; in the past 7 months, there have been a series of changes:
 
Miss Alice Choi, who served HKIM for more than six years, resigned in early 2011, for a new page in career. Her replacement, the newly recruited executives, officers of administration, membership and activitiesonly stayed for a very short time. As a result, the staff turnover rate has exceeded 250%. Moreover, sum of money was found stolen at the beginning of the year (glad to share that the amount has now been recovered); and, three members resigned from theExecutive Committee during this term.
 
Financially, we have committed to turn around from deficit; and internally, we will keep on excelling in recruitment, training, and building a more cooperative work team.  Corporate governance will be enforced and relationship with the government will be strengthened. Appreciation should be made to members of the executive council and various committees, who are all volunteers with heavy business commitments. Their time and resources are limited; therefore, some meetings were postponed due to insufficient attendance.
 
Why is this “special short term”?
 
On the one hand, launching the "special short term" enables the Institute to make adjustments from the experience within a shorter time; on the other hand, it can also prepare for the revolutionary plan.
 
"Special short term" is the first step to improve the governance of the Institute. Our fiscal year ends in September each year; the audit report is generally completed within six months. Usually annual general meeting in December revealed the financial picture to September as of last year's audit report which cannot represent the current situation in a timely manner. From now on, the Institute is trying to shorten the time difference between the member Annual General Meeting and audit reports publishing, to inform our members about the budget at the earliest possible time in order to enhance the transparency.
"Special short term" creates the opportunity for reforms and enhancement of operation effectiveness of the Institute. In the coming term, we aspire to:

1. propose concrete ways to enhance the status of marketing professionals
2. empower and enable the new coming staff to work more efficiently and effectively
3. require members of the Executive Committee and other committees to be more proactively engaging in the Institute’s activities and meetings at their best efforts and capabilities
4. continue to cut down the operational costs and ensure running efficiencies, in light of attaining a positive P&L account
5. train and plan for the succession for the Council.

From January, we have achieved a record of surplus and we should be striving to keep up such great momentum. Next year will be our 30th anniversary, and my team and I are determined to set our goals for positive P&L account; a team of capable staff, and a group of actualizing council and committee members.

you to participate in any of the following committees: Individual Membership, Corporate Membership, Activities (including training), Education, Corporate Communications (including internal and external, Information Technology Services). • Corporate Communications: Getting more closely connected with the government
• Members Benefits: Sent delegates to International Marketing function
• Education reform: Launched brand new curriculum
• Member Activities: Tailored activities and programmes according to the seniorities and experience of our members
• Trainingfor corporations: New service, new challenges
