It was a fashion event bar none, as models cat walked the creative works of budding designers, youngsters hip hopping to rap, all in a setting more attuned for launching the latest spring collection of haute couture.
The HKIM 22nd Annual Dinner was held at the Newton Hotel on June 26. This year・s theme was :Fashion Touch;, reflecting Hong Kong・s status as an emerging fashion powerhouse. The dinner started with an opening speech by the Chairman, Dr. K.C. Li, who also introduced a new China marketing qualification, the National Marketing Manager qualification. This was followed by a speech by Miss Johanna Ho, an international fashion designer hailing from Hong Kong. Miss Ho shared her experience on breaking into the capitals of design, London, New York and Tokyo, and her viewpoints on how to market successfully the :Johanna Ho; brand. Dr Au Kin-Fan, Associate Head, Institute of Textiles and Clothing, Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, gave an informative talk on the history and development of the textile quota system and how the Hong Kong industry moves with the system.
Certainly one of the more temperature raising parts of the Annual Dinner were the fashion show, where over 20 of Hong Kong・s budding fashion designers showed off their creations. Over 10 new lines of clothing were shown for the first time to our dinner guests.
The Annual Dinner was attended by over 200 members and guests, and provided an excellent opportunity for networking and interaction between professionals, academics and students.
