HKIM participated in two significant events in Shanghai last month. The Hong Kong Financial Services Expo ( 香港金融服務博覽 ) was held in Shanghai International Convention Centre on 20–22 September. Mr Henry Tang, Financial Secretary of HKSAR, and Mr Frederick Lam , HKIM Honorary Advisor and Executive Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) , officiated the opening ceremony of the Expo with top Shanghai officials. HKIM being one of the supporting professional bodies, our Chairman, Dr K C Li, attended the ceremony as one of the honourable guests. The event was highly successful. Through it, HKIM was also introduced to many businesses in Shanghai.
Right after this opening ceremony, it was the Roundtable Conference for Shanghai-Hongkong Cooperation in World Expo 2010 (2010 世博會滬港合作圓桌會議 ). This super event to be held six years later in Shanghai has brought great business potentials. It has been estimated that the total investment on this expo project will be 40 billion RMB. Given the huge business opportunities, the TDC organized the function to introduce to Shanghai how Hong Kong may contribute to the success of the World Expo through our professional services.
In the roundtable sessions, presentations were given by members of the Hong Kong service industry delegation led by the Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, and relevant officials and industry leaders in Shanghai. Dr K C Li introduced the excellence of Hong Kong marketing services as well as the unique strengths of marketing professionals in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong delegation also had useful and in-depth discussions with Shanghai representatives.
The Hong Kong delegation consisted of representatives of major professional bodies and industry leaders. Besides Dr Li, among the professional body representatives were Ms Viveca Chan, HKIM Honorary Advisor and Chair of TDC Design, Marketing & Licensing Services Advisory Committee, Mr Anthony W.K. Chow, former President of the Law Society of Hong Kong, and Mr Edward Shen, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. The delegation also visited the future site for the World Expo 2010.
