Ms Leonie Ki, S.B.S, JP

Managing Director
Miss Leonie Ki is Managing Director of New World China Enterprises Projects Ltd. , a subsidiary of New World Development Co., Ltd. She joined the company in November 1997. Concurrently she heads the New World Liberty China Ventures Ltd., which is a private equity fund jointly formed by New World, Liberty Mutual Company and Asian Development Bank. It's mandate is to invest, reform and restructure SOEs and POEs in China and to instill concepts of corporate governance, anti-corruption, branding and good business practice.

Previously Leonie was the Founder, Partner and Chairman/CEO of Grey Hong Kong Advertising Ltd (1978 – 1995) and Grey China Advertising Ltd.(1992 – 1995). A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, Leonie has more than 30 years’ experience in integrated communication and marketing services. She was Chairman of 4A's China from 1992 to 1995. She taught Advertising and PR at the Communication Department of the Baptist College from 1974-1980. Today, many of the leaders and top creative personnel of the advertising industry in Hong Kong and China are her students.

In September 1995, Leonie took a two years sabbatical to work for the welfare of Hong Kong during the critical moment of transition for the return of sovereignty from Britain to China. She became the founding Chief Executive of The Better Hong Kong Foundation, a non-profit organization with the aim of promoting business confidence and ensuring prosperity in the 1997 Handover. She was also the Executive Director for the “HK97 Extravaganza”, a July 1st, 1997 Celebration staged in the Victoria Harbour to commemorate the return of Hong Kong to Motherland.

For community and charity services, Leonie has been a council member of UNICEF, a life member of the Children’s Cancer Foundation, Hon. Secretary of the Bridge to China Charitable Foundation, member of Project Vision and Hong Kong Housing Society, as well as trustee of Ocean Park Conservation Fund .

For education, Leonie has been a member of the Asian Advisory Board of the Cheng Yu Tung Management Institute, Richard Ivey School of Business (The University of Western Ontario, Canada) since its inception in 1998. She sits on the Advisory Board of the EMBA Programme of CUHK since 2003, and is a member of the Careers Advisory Board of HKU since 2005. Besides, Leonie has been appointed by the Chief Executive of HKSAR as Council Member of the Open University of Hong Kong (2000-2006) and Court & Council Member of Lingnan University since Dec 06. She has been member of CPU Advisory Panel on the Consultancy Study on Creative Industries from 2001-6 as well as a member of the Commission for Strategic Development of HKSAR in 2005-07.

She has also helped New World initiated a New World Harvard Fellows Program by sending PRC government officials to Harvard Kennedy School for training. The Program has just celebrated its 10th anniversary this year and has sent a total of 130 Ministers and Directors, the most notable ones are Minister Li Yuan Chao, Judge Cao Jian Ming and Minister Chen De Ming.

Leonie believes in the importance of whole person development for university students before they step into the world and start their career. She has committed her time for the HKU mentorship program since its launch in 1997, and her mentoring network has also been expanded to students from CUHK, HKSTU, as well as mainland students from Tsinghua and Yunnan University.

In view of her contribution to the business society of Hong Kong and her dedication for education, CUHK has awarded Leonie the honour of Beta Gamma Sigma (2007), and the Open University of Hong Kong has conferred her a Hon. University Fellowship (2007).

A popular writer and columnist, Leonie has published nine books so far, including the first ever and best selling advertising book in Chinese in Greater China in 1984.

Leonie is a CPPCC member of the Yunnan Province since 2002. In 2005, she was appointed JP and in 2007 awarded Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Lastly, Leonie is a Director of New World First Bus Services Ltd, Kunming, PRC and INEDs of Sa Sa International Holdings Ltd. ( HKSE 178 ) and Clear Media Ltd. ( HKSE 100 ).
