Hong Kong Institute of Marketing

Hong Kong Institute of Marketing (HKIM) was officially founded on 12 November 1982 and committed itself to upgrading professional standards of marketing and raising industry awareness of the profession in Hong Kong.

Patron : The Hon. Donald Tsang Yam-kuen
              Chief Executive
Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong

Mr Ian Cook, the first Chairman of HKIM and the driving force behind the Institute recognized a need for a professional association in the territory to represent the growing number of marketing executives and to establish a networking base for members to access resources and materials.

In the early days, the Institute did not have an office or any employees. All the work was done by a voluntary Executive Council. With limited resources, the Institute embarked on the journey of setting up its own office in its 10th year of existence. A variety of programs were developed with good responses in terms of quality and financial contributions.

The Institute has an expanding membership of over 3,000 territory-wide marketing professionals. Policies of the Institute are determined by an Executive Council of 12 members. It is dedicated to providing members with a range of quality services.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Institute has been active in the development of Hong Kong's marketing skills; as a representative for marketing professionals at all levels of business; as a monitor of standards and ethics and as a training and education resource. Also, it has an essential role because of the vital part marketing will play in sustaining Hong Kong's economy and external trade into the Twenty First century.
